NJT Tracker ("we", "us") is an independent app for tracking NJ Transit trains and buses, operated by an independent developer based in the United States. We respect your privacy and collect only what we need to run the app. We do not sell your personal information, and we never have.
This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using NJT Tracker, you agree to it.
Storage Location & GDPR
Your information is processed and stored in the United States. We handle it as if it were our own and therefore take appropriate measures to protect it in the spirit of stricter EU data protection laws.
Because EU law requires data to be stored in the EU to be fully compliant, we cannot and do not claim GDPR-compliance, but we do our best to meet its standards in every other way.
Account Information
You can use NJT Tracker as a guest without an account. If you do, we only generate an anonymous identifier so the app can save your settings — no name or email is attached to it.
If you choose to sign in with Google, we store the basic profile information Google provides:

Your name and email address

Your profile photo (if available)
We use this only to identify your account and sync your settings across devices.
Preferences You Save
To personalize routing and alerts, we store the preferences you set, such as:

Saved home and work addresses (and their coordinates)
•
Your routing preference (e.g. standard, accessible, fastest)
•
Trains or buses you subscribe to for track and gate notifications
Location
With your permission, we use your device's location to find nearby stops and stations and to plan trips from where you are. You can grant or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings.
Your live location is used to fulfill your request and is not stored as part of your profile. Any addresses you deliberately save (like home or work) are kept with your settings as described above.
Notifications & Device Data
To deliver track and gate change alerts, we store a push notification token for your device. We also process limited technical data needed to operate the app reliably, including app version, basic diagnostics, and integrity-verification tokens (Firebase App Check) that confirm requests come from the genuine app.
Analytics
We use, or may soon use, analytics to understand how the app is used in aggregate — for example, which screens are popular or where errors occur — so we can improve it. This data is used to measure and enhance the experience, not to identify you personally.
Subscriptions & Payments
NJT Tracker may offer optional paid subscriptions. Payments are processed entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not receive or store your full payment-card details — we only learn whether your subscription is active so we can unlock the corresponding features.
Advertising
The free version of NJT Tracker may display advertising. Ad providers may use device identifiers to serve and measure ads in accordance with their own privacy policies. You can support the app to remove ads. We do not share your name, email, or saved addresses with advertisers.
How Information Is Shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers that make the app work:

Google Firebase: authentication, database, hosting, push notifications, and analytics

App store and ad providers, only as described in the sections above
Live transit data is sourced from NJ Transit, OpenTripPlanner, and OpenStreetMap. Routing requests are processed by our own servers and do not carry your account identity to these data sources.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or where we believe it's necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or the app.
Your Choices & Data Deletion
You stay in control of your information:

You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time — see our Data Deletion page for how.

You can grant or revoke location access at any time in your device settings.
•
You can manage or remove track and gate notifications in the app's Settings, and limit ad personalization through your device's privacy controls.
Retention & Security
We keep your account information and saved preferences for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove this data as described on our Data Deletion page, though we may keep limited information where the law requires it.
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections and app integrity checks. No app or online service can be completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
NJT Tracker is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If we learn that we have, we delete it.
